Digital Retinal Imaging

Our computer assisted digital imaging system enables us to provide a more thorough record of the health of your eyes.

Digital imaging can assist us in early detection of deteriorating ocular conditions including central retinal diseases, central detachments, holes, thinning, optic nerve disease, precancerous lesions, macular degeneration, hypertensive retinopathy and diabetic retinopathy.

The Nidek ultra-high resolution retinal camera allows for an advanced diagnostic analysis of your ocular health. This noninvasive imaging device provides detailed and comprehensive documentation and allows us to store these images to compare with the results of future tests, so that a complete ocular health history can be generated. Minute changes become apparent that we may not been able to identify without these tests.

retinascanduo

We strongly recommend ALL of our patients receive this test.It is especially important for those patients who have, or have a relative with high blood pressure, diabetes, retinal problems, headaches, floaters, flashing streaks, a strong prescription for glasses, diminishing vision, macular degeneration, cataracts or taking medications.

For more information on the retinal camera or if you would like to have this test performed, please contact us to book an appointment.

Optical Coherence Tomography

The Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) enables us to provide a more thorough record of the health of your eyes.

An OCT permits us to observe the condition of your retina by taking a cross sectional image through the eye similar to an MRI scan. This layer-by-layer investigation assists in early detection of ocular conditions including central retinal diseases, central detachments, holes, thinning, optic nerve disease, precancerous lesions, macular degeneration, and diabetic retinopathy.

We also store and compare the results of future tests so that a complete ocular health history can be generated. Minute changes that may not have been apparent are readily identified with these tests. This is especially important for those patients who have a personal or family history of high blood pressure, retinal problems, headaches, floaters, flashing light streaks, a strong prescriptions for glasses, diminishing vision, macular degeneration, cataracts or are taking certain medications.

An OCT detects eye diseases that can threaten vision before symptoms become apparent in a conventional eye examination. With an OCT, your doctor has one of the most accurate and trusted diagnostic instruments available.

For more information on the OCT or if you would like to have this test performed, please contact to book an appointment.

Blepharitis

BlephEx

Blepharitis is a common and chronic inflammatory condition that affects the eyelids. There are several types of blepharitis, most of which are caused by bacterial infections. Allergies, toxins, fungal, or viral infections, blocked oil glands in the skin or conditions such as rosacea or seborrheic dermatitis can also lead to its development.

If you are experiencing any of the following symptoms contact your eye care professional for more information on how you can treat blepharitis. We offer an in office procedure called BlephEx to treat and manage blepharitis.

Symptoms

Commonly, your eyelid margins are red (and/or swollen), with scales and flakes apparent at the base of the lashes. Symptoms of blepharitis vary but may include itching or burning sensations, tearing, eyelash matting or crusting, red and swollen eyelids, the feeling that something is in your eye and blurry vision. On awakening in the morning, your eyelids may feel sticky with crusted scales and debris caused by an oily discharge from the eyelid glands. Untreated, these glands may become plugged and infected, potentially leading to recurrent styes, dry eye syndrome, eyelid scarring and/or a loss of lashes.

Treatment of blepharitis mainly involves keeping the eye lids and lashes clean, using eye lid scrubs daily, doing warm compresses or possibly using medications prescribed by your eye care professional.

What Is BlephEx And How It's Different?

BlephEx is an in-office procedure performed directly by your eye care provider. With this procedure your doctor can now take an active role in treating blepharitis instead of simply relying on your ability to perform semi-effective home lid scrubs. This handheld medical device using a micro-sponge to gently exfoliate the eyelids and remove debris and biofilm that can contribute to blepharitis. The doctor thoroughly and precisely eliminates the scurf and bacterial debris that builds up along the lid margin, the main causes of inflammatory lid disease. This treatment helps to improve symptoms such as eyelids redness, irritation, itching and dryness.

Tear Osmolarity

I-Pen®

The New Standard for Diagnosing Dry Eye Disease This hand-held device called the i-Pen®, is the world’s first, point-of-care, electronic diagnostic device to detect and indirectly measure the tear film osmolarity levels associated with stages of Dry Eye Disease (mild, moderate and severe).

Some of the many benefits the i-pen provides us with includes: Quantitative measurement of osmolarity, quick and simple point-of-care test, reproducible, accurate and reliable results and uses Single-Use-Sensors.

The above information was provided by i-med pharmaceuticals. For more information on this device click here.

How does the Tear Film Osmolarity work?

The i-Pen® Osmolarity System is a solid state electronic diagnostic device for the quantitative measurement of osmolarity (the concentration of dissolved salts in solution) of human tears in normal and Dry Eye Disease patients.

The i-Pen® Osmolarity system, used in conjunction with the i-Pen® Osmolarity Single Use Sensors (SUS), provides a quick and simple method for determining tear osmolarity of the tissues bathed in the tear film of the orbital tissues such as the papabral conjuntiva. After several seconds of contact with the eyelid tissue, the i-Pen® will display a quantitative tear osmolarity test result on the liquid crystal display (LCD) in units of mOsms/L. No calculations required. The i-Pen® Osmolarity Test utilizes an impedance measurement to provide an indirect assessment of osmolarity of the tear film of the eye.

The i-Pen® is designed for use as an in-practice screening device both for patients presenting with dry eye symptoms and for all pre and post-surgical patients. In addition, the i-Pen® is an invaluable asset for monitoring the progress of dry eye treatment therapies.

Central & Peripheral Vision

Visual Field Testing

Visual fields refer to the entire area that is visible to an individual when they are looking straight ahead. The visual field includes both central vision (what you see directly in front of you) and peripheral vision (what you see on the sides).

Visual field testing is a diagnostic procedure used to assess the full extent of a person's visual field. This test can help detect abnormalities or deficiencies in the visual field that may be indicative of various eye conditions, neurological disorders, or brain injuries.

Visual field testing is commonly used in the diagnosis and management of conditions such as glaucoma, optic nerve damage, retinal disorders, brain tumors, and neurological conditions affecting vision. It provides valuable information about the integrity of the visual system and helps eye care professionals monitor changes in a patient's visual field over time.
